The real-world laboratory understands building as a societal process: It links the structural revitalization and energy-efficient renewal of the industrial heritage site with processes that strengthen community, design practice, and cultural learning. Material, social, cultural, and digital aspects are interwoven. Spaces are refurbished, uses are tested, and at the same time new forms of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and cultural participation are established.

This transdisciplinary collaboration creates an experimental field in which ideas are not only developed but also tested directly on site together with the people of Zeitz.

The Reallabor ZEKIWA Zeitz is a collaborative project involving Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Forum Rathenau e. V., and the City of Zeitz. The diversity of the participating institutions forms the basis for an open, inclusive, and experimental process.

WELCOME TO THE REALLABOR

Das Reallabor ZEKIWA Zeitz (RZZ) engages with a site that shaped the industrial history of the city of Zeitz for more than a century and today stands as a symbol of the challenges of structural change in the region. As a real-world laboratory, we use this unique site to explore new approaches to sustainable building, collective forms of living, and future-oriented urban development.
